Most of the new names in Gretna this year are in buildings that already had a sign on them. An ice cream shop moved into the old Cold Stone Creamery. A Greek restaurant is going into the former Voodoo Taco. A neighborhood pub moved into what used to be Hurrdat Sports Bar & Grill. The large ground-up construction near 192nd Street and Highway 370 is real, but much of what's being built there has a 2027 date on it.
So the Gretna you can use this October is mostly the same footprint with new tenants. Here's where that turnover happened and when the new buildings are expected to start opening.
Nebraska Crossing Is Filling Its Empty Spaces
The outlet center at 21209 Nebraska Crossing Drive added several names over the summer, mostly in spaces another business had already used.
- Tipico Helado. This locally owned Mexican ice cream shop opened Saturday, June 27, in the former Cold Stone Creamery space. A Grow Omaha report on July 2 confirmed it was open.
- Hollister Co. The retailer held its official opening on Friday, September 25. It's the brand's second store in the Omaha metro, after the one at Westroads Mall. The Nebraska Crossing store page now marks it "NOW OPEN!"
- Kalamata Mediterranean Grill and Bar. This one is planned for the former Voodoo Taco space, with a Greek-inspired menu and a full bar. John Sgourakis will own and run it. When it was announced in July, the target was "late this summer." As of early October, the Nebraska Crossing store page still lists it as "Opening Fall 2026" and doesn't give a grand-opening date.
Of the three, Kalamata is the only one you can't plan a dinner around yet. Its original target has passed, and the center's own listing still says it's coming. Until a date is posted, treat it as on the way, not open.
Paradise Bakery Changed Its Hours to Match Its Busiest Times
The bakery made the most telling change at Nebraska Crossing this year, and it didn't involve a new space.
In early July, Paradise Bakery & Café added a brunch menu served seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with dishes like chorizo biscuits and gravy and omelets. By late September, the café had moved its closing time to 6 p.m. Grow Omaha reported the reason directly: most of its customers come in during breakfast and lunch. It plans to make up for the lost evenings with occasional pop-up dinners and special after-hours events.
If Paradise was your early-evening stop on the way home, that's over for regular service. The morning menu is bigger than it used to be, and the dinners now happen only as events. Those pop-ups are worth watching for, since they won't be on a regular weekly schedule.
The Same Thing Happened on 204th Avenue
The pattern holds outside the outlet center too.
Thirsty's Pub is now open at 10746 South 204th Avenue, Suite 1, in the space Hurrdat Sports Bar & Grill used to occupy. The pub had been northeast of Highways 6 and 370 and moved earlier this summer. Gretna didn't gain a bar, and the regulars at Thirsty's didn't lose theirs. The pub just moved into a ready-made sports bar on the west side of town.
One fall change went the other way. The Starbucks at 195th Street and Highway 370 closed on Sunday, September 27. It was one of four Omaha-area stores closed under the company's nationwide plan to shut hundreds of underperforming locations. The others were at 96th and L Street, 122nd and Fort Street, and 72nd and Cornhusker Road in Papillion. That closure came from a national decision, not anything in Gretna. Still, it took a coffee stop off the same stretch of Highway 370 where most of the new construction is going up.
Where Gretna Is Building From Scratch
Gretna Landing, northwest of 192nd Street and Highway 370, is where new construction is going up. Here's what's there, ordered by when each piece opened or is expected to open.
- Hy-Vee, 10855 S. 191st Street. This is the anchor everything else is building around. It opened June 13, 2023. At 135,000 square feet, it was the chain's largest store at the time. It's open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Centris Federal Credit Union, 11013 South 192nd Street. Opened to the public June 15, then held a ribbon-cutting on July 15.
- IQ Car Wash and Hyper Energy Bar. As of August 3, both were under construction between the existing Walgreens and Centris. Hyper is a drive-through serving specialty energy drinks and coffee with more than 100 flavor choices. In June, it projected a late-fall 2026 opening. Neither business has a confirmed opening day yet.
- Red Door Woodfire Grill. Under construction near 192nd and Highway 370, close to the Hy-Vee, with a target opening of February 2027. The concept started in the Kansas City area in 2013. Its Aksarben Village restaurant, which opened June 2, is its seventh location. The menu is built around wood-fired steaks and burgers, with Southwestern dishes like tacos and enchiladas.
- Nebraska Medicine Gretna Landing Health Center. A 125,000-square-foot building developed with Noddle Companies, expected to open to patients in the second half of 2027. The framing reached its highest point on June 10. Plans include primary and specialty care, urgent care, imaging, lab services and a pharmacy.
- Gretna Crossing Shopping Center. The Lerner Company's 70-acre project at 192nd Street and Highway 370 is planned for up to 500,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space. It broke ground in early May. The public coverage since then doesn't name any tenants or an opening schedule.
On that list, the only thing that opened this year is a credit union. The car wash and drink stand don't have opening dates yet. The restaurant and the health center are aimed at 2027. The largest piece, Gretna Crossing, has no announced tenants yet. Next year, the 192nd and 370 corridor will probably be where Gretna's new restaurants and services show up. For this fall, the changes you can actually use are mostly the swaps at Nebraska Crossing and on 204th Avenue.
Where the Coffee Run Goes Now
The Starbucks closure is the change most likely to shift a regular routine this month, so here's what's still nearby.
Hy-Vee's department list for the Gretna store includes a Starbucks, along with a bar, sushi, Chinese and Italian food counters, and a bakery. That keeps a Starbucks counter in the same 192nd and Highway 370 area as the store that closed. You'll just be ordering inside a grocery store instead of at a drive-through window.
If you were going for something sweeter, FiiZ Drinks opened June 6 at Tiburon Pointe, 10215 S. 168th Avenue, Suite 207. It sells customizable "dirty" sodas from more than 1,000 soda varieties, plus snacks. Hoagie's Hawaiian Ice, which sets up by the Ace Hardware parking lot, just finished its third summer in Gretna. It's a seasonal stand, so plan on it again next summer. When Hyper Energy Bar opens between the Walgreens and Centris, Gretna Landing gets a drive-through drink stop again. Until it posts an opening date, the Hy-Vee counter is the Starbucks option still operating near the old corner.
